Warrington Wolves Statement on Anthony Gelling Situation

Warrington Wolves have confirmed that centre Anthony Gelling will not be available for selection ‘pending a club investigation into conduct away from the club’.

Gelling is in full support of the investigation, and neither the club or the player will be making an further comment at the time.

He has also been suspended by the Super League after being arrested on suspicion of assault with intent.

The 29-year-old only joined Warrington at the beginning of the current season on a two-year deal from Widnes Vikings, but his future with the club, and in the sport is now in jeopardy.

A statement from Cheshire Police reads: “At 3pm on Saturday 8 February police received a report of an assault at an address in Widnes. A 29-year-old was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. He has been questioned by detectives & released on conditional bail.”

Enquiries into the assault, the statement says, remain ongoing.

Gelling, who had previously won the Super League title with Wigan Warriors in 2016, had spoken about making the most of his second-chance in the top-flight, having played in the Championship with the VIkings last season.
