Season Preview: Castleford Tigers

The Tigers off-season has been all but successful, with the news that Luke Gale will miss all of the 2019 season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. They severely missed the half-back last season. His absence from the team this season has meant that the Tigers can reuse Gale’s salary cap value on another player for the 2019 season.

However, with doubts over Jamie Ellis’ and Ben Roberts’ fitness, throws the spotlight on supremely gifted Jake Trueman and, possibly, Cory Aston which will be a very big ask of the young pair.

After losing last seasons semi-final, Daryl Powell stated that he wanted more players with a winning mentality. Despite saying this, the Tigers have only managed to bring in Jordan Rankin just two weeks ago.

Many players have had their contacts upgraded, Mike McMeeken and Greg Minikin among them.

With just Rankin added to the Tigers ranks and many players leaving The Jungle, I predict that Castleford won’t make the play-offs.
