Man of Steel shortlist announced.

James Roby, Ben Barba from St Helens and  Wigan Warrior’s John Bateman have been named on the three-man shortlist of the 2018 Steve Prescott Man of Steel.

Saints Matty Lees, Castleford half-back Jake Trueman and Leeds Full-back Jack Walker have been named on the shortlist of Young Player of the Year.

Castleford also have two women named in the three-woman shortlist for the first ever Woman of Steel.

Georgia Roche, 17, and Tara-Jane Stanley, 24,  were alongside Leeds’ Lois Forsell on the shortlist.

Teenager Roche scored four tries in Cas’ Challenge Cup semi-final win of York City Knights.

Forsell was the captain of Leeds in the final, where they beat Castleford.

Stanley, who completes the shortlist for the award is the current England full-back.

In the Mens category. Ben Barba has scored 26 tries and assisted 24 as Saints won the League Leaders Shield.

James Roby made an average of 8.16 metres with every carry and also made the most runs from dummy-half for the Saints.

John Bateman as been instrumental in both attack and defence for Wigan with 62 offloads, the most of any body and 424 carries over the course of the season.

For Young Player of the Year. Jack Walker has made the full-back spot his own this season and despite a disappointing year for the Rhinos the youngster has been a shining light for the fans.

Jake Trueman was good enough for Castleford to keep his place in the side once Luke Gale returned from injury forcing Ben Roberts to drop down to the bench. His kicking game has been outstanding for the Tigers.

Matty Lees has also managed to make the jump from reserve grade to the starting 13 for the Saints and has made nearly 1000 metres this season in only 11 games.

The winner of both will be chosen via a poll of every Mens Super League and Womens Super League player respectively and will be announcd on Monday October 8th.
